School
Monday came around all to quickly again so it's back to school. Up at 5.30 and a half hour ride on our bikes to Khnar School. As usual we waited around until about 7.20am for students to arrive, sweep out classrooms and water plants. Plant watering involves the children collecting their paint pot, making sure the long rope is tied on tightly and taking it to the well. Collecting the water then distributing it around each other and the plants. It does seem to be the plants nearest to the well that are the biggest, I think most of the water has been spilled by the time they reach the other side of the playground.
About half of the children arrive on bikes (the lucky ones). You always see the smallest child on a bike bigger than he is, he can't even reached the seat and the bigger children on tiny little bikes. One of the other volunteers did a survey with her class about transport. No one in the class had ever been in a car, and only two of the class had been on a bus. Mopeds and push bikes are the way forwards!
I gave my second class, at Khnar, a wordsearch to do. All the other classes had loved it. This class was totally bemused. I had to go round every individual child to explain (there's 45 of them). They loved it in the end though and when the lesson ended, none of them wanted to put it away.
Quick ride to Lolei, I must be getting fitter, didn't feel quite so tired today, 10 mins to recover then straight into lessons. This class must have learnt English before at some stage because they're really good. Started TIME with them the other day so continued with that, they got quite confused with quarter and half past, and as for quarter to, thats not even worth mentioning.
Played a little problem sovling game, re arranging the numbers in a grid. They loved it but it took them ages, I think they're just not used to having to think like that.
Ended with a stand up, sit down, jump, etc game. Even the teacher was copying down the things I'd written by the end of it. Maybe he'll join in next time
