Koh Jum (Joe)

Koh Jum is situated about 45km from Krabi town Thailand, and is one of the most amazing and unspoilt islands in Thailand.
Getting to Koh Jum is a bit of a mission. From Krabi town we picked up a tuk tuk, (motor bike and side car), to the ferry port. It took about 2 hours to do 4km. Once we got onto the ferry we sat in the boat for about 2 hours in a really small, unsafe room wondering if it was really worth the hassel. There were guys trying to sell us holiday books and anything else they thought they could palm off on westeners.
Eventually we arrived at Koh Jum and headed down the boat to search for our rucksacs. On Koh Jum there is no ferry teminal and as we got closer we spotted some long tail boads (Traditional fishing boats) heading towards us. The ferry slowed and the long tail boats got closed in. It looked as if pirates were coming to take over the ferry, but all was good and we got on one of the long tail boats and headed to the beach. As we got closer the island looked like something from a film, golden sandy beach and dense jungle with the odd fishing boat and monkies all about.
After we hit the beach we met Phil, a Scotish guy who has been living there for a few years. He took us to a hut in ther jungle. The hut was on the hillside about ten metres from the beach with no mod cons whatsoever - well - a mozzy net and a toilet - but it was amazing. It was on stilts in the middle of a jungle with loads of wildlife around - monkeys, lizards, snakes and loads of funny looking bugs.
We spent two night on Koh Jum just chilling out swimming in the sea and drinking in some of the little huts dotted along the beach. If anyone ends up in the south of Thailand and has a few days to spar, then head to Koh Jum. It is one of the most amazing places I have ever been.
